Kinawley 1-07 Erne Gaels 4-14

Erne Gaels produced an emphatic performance as they secured their place in the Westville Hotel SFL Division One final with victory away to Kinawley on Friday night.

Erne Gaels entered the league with no points from the Club Players’ Competition but they have shown great form and consistency to rattle off eight wins on the bounce and seal their place in the final.

Kinawley could yet be the side to provide that opposition in the final with the Brian Borus hoping that Erne Gaels can do them a favour by beating Enniskillen this Friday night while they then need to overcome neighbours Derrylin.

Enniskillen need a point to seal their spot in the final.

Erne Gaels manager Seamus Ryder is in no doubt that his charges deserve to be in the final.

“Obviously, we are delighted to make the final. It’s well deserved, the whole squad has been brilliant and we’ve had different men step up each week,” he said.

The Belleek men have carried a real goal scoring threat throughout the league and that continued last Friday night when they put four past an understrength Kinawley side.

Barry McCann swooped for two of the away side’s goals while Ryan Lyons, who finished with 1-09, and Tommy McCaffrey also raised green flags as they ran out comprehensive winners.

Erne Gaels took control of the contest in the first half and by the break they were nine ahead, 1-08 to 0-02.

It was Kinawley who opened the scoring through Tomás Corrigan but Erne Gael quickly responded as Lyons knocked over his first of the game.

Lyons then nudged the Belleek side ahead with another point before then grabbing the first goal of the contest as he punched home.

The points continued to flow for Erne Gaels as Lyons landed a further two points while Marti n Gilfeddar also chipped in with a score to leave it 1-05 to 0-01 at the water break.

Corrigan did register a second point for Kinawley but with Aoghan Kelm rattling off two points and Lyons adding another Erne Gaels reached the interval with a commanding advantage.

The away side went on to put the game to bed in the third quarter as Tommy McCaffrey and Barry McCann plundered goals while Lyons tagged on points.

Lorcan McKenna did hit the net for the Brian Borus who also had points from Tomás Corrigan, Ben Corrigan and Sean McManus.

But McCann added his second, and Erne Gaels fourth, goal while Lyons brought his tally to 1-09 as Erne Gaels finished up comfortable 4-14 to 1-07 winners.
