Enniskillen 2-14 Derrygonnelly 0-18

Enniskillen booked their place in the Reserve A Championship final in dramatic fashion as they saw off Derrygonnelly after extra time in an enthralling contest in Derrylin on Sunday.

The Harps looked as if they were going to seal a final spot when Conor Burns point put them a point ahead late on in extra time.

Enniskillen though were then awarded a late free and although Ross Bogue’s effort came back off the upright it struck Conall Quinn on the arm and went into the back of the net with the last action of the game as the Gaels finished up 2-14 to 0-18 victors.

Enniskillen had started the game brightly with Conall Quinn and Matthew Dixon among the points as they opened up a 0-03 to 0-00 advantage.

However, the Harps began to settle into the game after this and Conor McGovern and Paul Ward converted frees to bring them back on level terms although two Conor Watson points made it 0-05 to 0-03 in Enniskillen’s favour with 23 minutes played.

Indeed, that lead could have been greater as Ciaran Smith got through on goal but he was denied by Lee Skuce in the Harps goal.

Derrygonnelly though knocked over three points in a row from Stephen Gilroy, a McGovern free and Aidy McKenna to take the lead for the first time but the key score of the half went the way of Enniskillen as Conor Kelly got on the end of a Josh Horan ball over the top and he finished to the corner with aplomb to leave it 1-05 to 0-06 at the break.

The sides shared the opening six points of the second half with Neil McDermott and Ethan Beresford registering for Enniskillen while lively substitute Rory Joe Duffy and Conor McGovern fired over for the Harps as the Gaels remained two points ahead, 1-08 to 0-09.

But, Enniskillen were reduced to 14 with the dismissal of Beresford who was booked after picking up a black card in the first half and Derrygonnelly appeared to be taking control of the game as McGovern and Ward converted frees before Gareth McGovern, Duffy and Gilroy kicked points from play to put them three ahead, 0-14 to 1-08, with 57 minutes played.

The Gaels, who finished normal time with 13 men after Ronan Beattie was also red carded, rallied late on and Matthew McAleer and Watson closed the gap back to one before McDermott hit a late leveller to take the tie to extra time.

The first period of extra time belonged to Derrygonnelly as Duffy, Ward and Burns tagged on points while Enniskillen’s sole score was a Watson free to leave the Harps 0-17 to 1-12 ahead.

Enniskillen though dug in and Ross Bogue slotted over two frees to tie things up with three minutes left to play.

Burns then looked to have won it for Derrygonnelly when he raced through to point but then there was the late drama with Quinn’s last gasp goal for the Gaels which was quickly followed by the final whistle as Enniskillen progressed to the final this weekend.
