Kinawley 2-10 Roslea 0-12

Kinawley booked their place in the Reserve ‘A’ Championship final with a narrow victory over Roslea in Maguiresbridge on Saturday with the victory setting up a decider against Enniskillen this Saturday evening.

Kinawley eventually ran out winners by four points after a cagey second half between the sides.

Manager Kevin Martin said he was pleased with his side’s performance:

“The lads done well, they all worked very hard in hot conditions, it was a good hard hitting Championship game and we got the scores when we needed them.

“We know we are big underdogs going into the final against Enniskillen.”

Shaun Doherty was a standout performer for Kinawley as he was at the forefront of the attack, bagging both their goals inlcuding one in the first half as well as adding three points in the first half.

Eoghan Drumm and Aaron McHugh also knocked over points for the ‘Borus.

Shane Lynch got his name on the scoresheet for Roslea, while forward Niall Clerkin also helped himself to a point from play, a 45’ and a close-range free kick at the end of the half to leave the sides separated at 1-07 to 0-07 at half time, in favour of Kinawley.

It would be a more tense affair in the second half, an early couple of scores for Roslea was met with a close-range free kick from Doherty.

Daniel McGovern added another point before Kinawley were awarded a penalty for pulling inside the box after a long ball in.

Doherty stepped up and powered the ball into the bottom left corner to give his side some breathing room.

Darragh Clerkin’s point kept Roslea in the game before emotions boiled over and both teams had to be separated after a scuffle on the sideline by the Kinawley dugout.

Doherty added another point from a free kick and Niall Clerkin closed the gap to four points, but the Shamrocks late rally wasn’t enough.

Roslea manager Eamonn Kavanagh said: “We have struggled with a right amount of senior lads getting injured which has led to us having a weakened junior team this year but we have always been fit to compete.

“We were pleased we got to the league final against a very strong Derrygonnelly side, but we competed well and on Saturday we got 12 scores and so did they, with the two goals being the difference.

“To be fair to Kinawley I think they just about deserved it.”
