It will be a repeat of the Division One final this Sunday in Derrygonnelly as Erne Gaels and Kinawley battle it out for a spot in the SFC Final.

On that occasion Erne Gaels came out on top, securing the title with a one point win - and most would feel that this game is likely to be just as close.

Erne Gaels finished second in their group in the round robin stages which meant they had a quarter final to get over last weekend but they did that impressively as they eased past Roslea.

And manager Seamus Ryder was pleased to have that game as he was able to get some key players game time.

“If we didn’t have the quarter final we would have been going into the semi-final without minutes in Tommy (McCaffrey) and Ultan (Kelm) but we now have minutes in boys and we come into the game on the back of a win and a good performance,” he said.

And Ryder is expecting a fierce test against a strong Brian Borus outfit.

“It is the toss of a coin,” he said.

“Both teams know each other now, they’ve been watching us, we’ve watched them, so there will be no secrets. It will be an absolute battle and whatever team performs better on the day will win it.”

Kinawley carry a lot of threat in attack with the Corrigan brothers to the fore and Ryder knows that it is about getting the balance right in dealing with that while also playing their own game.

“It is hard to keep them quiet because they’re two good players and then they have Lorcan McKenna and the two McManus’ going really well for them too. They have a lot of top quality players that we have to try and keep quiet but we have to worry about our own game as well,” he added.

And he reiterates, that it is all about the performance on the day.

“It is going to take a good performance but if we can put in a performance then hopefully we will come out on the right side of it.”

Kinawley will be hoping to reach a first senior final since 1993 but they know that they face a huge test .

Selector Sean Leonard was impressed with what he seen from Erne Gaels in the quarter final.

“They were very impressive, they had almost their full strength team back in action and from the league final they have moved up a gear with their pace and their score-taking and their ability to close out Roslea was impressive too, not many teams can do that,” he commented.

Kinawley have impressed too in the championship as they topped their group and Leonard was happy to have the free week to aid with recovery.

And they are now looking forward to having another crack at the Belleek outfit.

“We threw our lot at the league final and we didn’t manage to get across the line.

“We are happy to be in the semi-final, that’s what you train for, and happy to have another go at Belleek and we will see if we can rise to the challenge again,” he said.

However, he believes that it is going to take a season best performance for the Brian Borus to make it through to the final.

“I think to beat Belleek we will certainly have to play our best game of the season and more than that to get by them but we will certainly give it a shot and we won’t be found wanting for effort,” said Leonard.
