16 years after leading his club to their last Fermanagh Senior Championship, Simon Bradley was at it again in 2022.

He saw his youthful side dismantle the challenge of Erne Gaels last Sunday with 10 points to spare.

And while the focus will be on the impressive performance of his side in Brewster Park, Bradley knows it takes more than the players on the field to achieve the ultimate prize in Fermanagh club football.

“We are delighted to get back to winning the championship again.16 years is a long time but all credit to the squad.

“Not to the team that played there or even the five subs, the full squad.

“There are 33/34 men involved and there are some of them that haven’t kicked a ball in the championship but without those guys, we wouldn’t have been ready to put in the performance we did today.

“This is a complete squad effort, complete club effort. The backroom team, fantastic, absolutely fantastic. Physio, doctor to a man we all built towards this and thank God it all paid off on the day.”

Championship finals are all about performing and showing up on the day.

Last Sunday, every player wearing an Enniskillen jersey stepped up to the plate and made it count.

Brandon Horan in midfield, James Ferguson at full back, Conor Love in the full forward line to name but a few but there were plenty more.

When asked what was the message to the players before the game to ensure they were able to perform to the best of their ability Bradley explained: “We said to the boys, don’t go hunting the man of the match award just let that come to you but everybody try and get to an eight out of 10.

“And if you drop to a seven and a half or rise to a nine and a half that’s perfect.

“Just try and get a good solid performance from everybody and that’s normally enough so don’t try and force it.

“And in fairness, we didn’t try and force it. We took our opportunities and I thought we were the better team on the day.”

Enniskillen were much the better team on the day as they snuffed out any threats posed by Erne Gaels.

“That was something that we worked on. We had to respect the fact they had an inside forward line that was very dangerous. And Ryan Lyons needed well marked too.

There was also a hunger and bite to their play.

It could be seen in their three goals which came from turnovers and making them count: “It’s things that you work on in training. If you turn the ball over high up the pitch you hunt a goal so it’s no surprise the boys pulled it off.

“This week they went into the back of the net. The last time we played Erne Gaels they didn’t go into the back of the net so it was a good day for us.

“I think we ticked all the boxes. I think we deserved today.”

The win has shown the growth of the Enniskillen team over the last year since they were well beaten by Derrygonnelly in the 2021 final.

And Bradley has seen that throughout the championship journey and he hopes this young side will now build on this in the coming years: “They have definitely matured.

“The round robin probably suited us as well. It gave us extra games without the full pressure of championship but I thought the second half against Belnaleck and the game against Derrygonnelly really set us up for the final.

“We are definitely a more mature team. Still very young but hopefully there are plenty more days like this to come.

“But it is hard work winning a championship so we will enjoy this one,” he concluded.
