Tummery Athletic 2 Killen Rangers 2

Tummery Athletic dropped two points on Saturday as they were held to a 2-2 draw against a Killen Rangers side who secured their first point of the season.

Tummery had taken the lead through Martin Hughes after only 15 minutes but Killen hit back and goals from Darren Long and Andrew Stevenson had them 2-1 up at the break.

The Dromore did force an equaliser with 72 minutes on the clock from Paudi Dillon but could not find a winner as the sides had to settle for a point apiece.

Tummery player-manager Ryan Hanna was disappointed with his side’s first half performance on the day.

“I was really annoyed with how we performed in the first half. It was a passive performance and we didn’t have the right attitude.

“It was also disappointing to concede two goals from set peices and in fairness Killen deserved their lead at half time,” said Hanna.

However, the Tummery boss was happier with their second half display.

“We were much better in the second half and we got the equaliser but we missed chances after that and Killen defended well.

“It wasn’t to be and in the end we got what we deserved,” added Hanna.

Tummery had started the game brightly and Hughes put them in front when he chested the ball down and volleyed home from six yards.

However, with 26 minutes played Killen were back on level terms as Darren Long nodded in unmarked at the back post from a Graham Young delivery, and the visitors were to go on and take the lead six minutes later.

Again there was slack marking from a set piece with Andrew Stevenson this time heading to the back of the net to leave it 2-1 at the interval.

Tummery raised their game after the break and forced Killen on the back foot but the away side defended resolutely while other chances were not taken.

But, the equaliser finally arrived with 18 minutes to go as Dillon slotted home from the edge of the box.

It seemed it would only be a matter of time before Tummery found a winner but they failed to convert a number of good chances as Killen held on for a point.

The focus now switches to the Junior Cup for Tummery who host Mid Ulster League side, Sandy Hill on Saturday.
