At the second time of asking, Clogher Valley will make their way down to Limerick as the aim to make it back-to-back All-Ireland Junior Cup Finals.

The last game against Newcaslte West was postponed due to weather conditions before Christmas at a time when Clogher were unbeaten this season.

That has changed however, with Ballyclare inflicting a first defeat on New Year’s Eve.

So heading down now Clogher Valley and coach Stephen Bothwell are in an unfamiliar position of having to react to a loss.

But Bothwell sees this game as the perfect tonic as it distracts from the league for his players who will be coming up against a Newcastle side determined to avenge last year’s semi-final defeat in the this competition.

Looking back at Ballyclare, Bothwell felt his side did not do enough to win the game: “We didn’t do enough on the day to win it and that’s it.

“In saying that, the boys worked very hard and defended very well at times and as always in all big games you’ll have decisions from the referee you weren’t overly happy with and maybe we let them affect us too much and dwelled on them a wee bit too long.

“It is what it is, we have to get on with it. It’s a good way now to just challenge ourselves and get back on the horse for a massive game this week.”

The focus turns to the Limerick side who were also in action last week with a win on Monday night.

Bothwell believes with home advantage for Newcastle they will be well up for the game but he just wants his side to learn from last week’s defeat: “They are obviously well up for it and getting their semi final at home couldn’t have much better than a team to travel the distance we have to travel so they will be a cock a hoop about that.

“Its just to try and learn from our mistakes and try and get going a bit better this week.”

And he has seen a good reaction in training, which he believes shows the intent of his players.

“We had a real good go at each other in terms of preparation and defence going at attack and making sure we were doing our things right and we were able to play the ball out of hard contact areas and hopefully that will stand to us and I’m sure it’’ll be something similar on Saturday.

“There’s thing we worked on at training that we didn’t do particularly well, it was good to get trying them.

“I’m not saying they were very poor you just want to put any wrongs you have in your own head right, same as myself. So it’s all a learning process.

”They just want to get back out on the pitch and redeem themselves.”
