Mountjoy United 0 Enniskillen Town 4

Enniskillen Town maintained their impressive form as they stayed ten points clear at the top of the Mercer League with a 4-0 win away to Mountjoy United on Saturday.

Cathal Beacom followed last week’s six goal haul with a brace while Frank Wallace and James McKenna also got on the scoresheet for the league leaders.

Joint manager McKenna was pleased with the overall performance from his side.

“We got the three points, scores four goals and could have scored more and we kept a clean sheet so, overall, we are pleased with that,” said McKenna.

Town created a number of chances in the first half but only managed to take one of them, Duwayne McManus teeing up Beacom who slotted home.

McManus went close to adding to the lead but he saw his dinked effort come off the underside of the bar before being cleared while Wallace also had a couple of openings but at the break it was still 1-0.

However, Town doubled their lead through Wallace who produced a fine finish after a great ball from the right by Conor Watson.

Beacom then bagged his second of the game to make it 3-0. He robbed a home defender before tucking away at the second time of asking.

And McKenna made it 4-0, heading home at the front post from a Callum Jones corner.

The league will take a back seat this week as the Mulhern Cup gets underway and it is a competition that McKenna says Town are keen to do well in.

“It is something that we would be targeting, we want to have a run in the cup, especially as we had no Junior Cup this year, but we won’t be looking any further ahead than a tricky away game against Magheraveely this Saturday.

“We are expecting a tough challenge," he said.
