Enniskillen Rangers 4 Mountjoy United 1

Enniskillen Rangers came from a goal down to pick up the points at home to Mountjoy United on Saturday.

The visitors had taken an early lead through Luke Barker and they maintained that advantage through to the break.

However, Rangers raised their game in the second half and Connor Rippey bagged a hat-trick while Jake Browne also got on the scoresheet as the ‘Gers ran out 4-1 winners.

“It was a game of two halves,” admitted Rangers boss Michael Kerr. “We weren’t really at the races in the first half; we were slow in possession, lacklustre and we made silly decisions.

“At half time we asked for more intensity and application and the second half was much better. We moved the ball quicker and made the right decisions. The main things was to get another three points and we did that,” he said.

Next up for Rangers is a meeting with with a Tummery side who can afford few slip ups if they are to stay in the title race.

“For Tummery it is a massive game and one they need to win but we won’t win the league so the pressure is off us to an extent and we can try things and get players game time. In saying that though we will be going there to win the game, we have won three in a row and want to make it four,” said Kerr.

Mountjoy took the lead after 17 minutes on Saturday as they took advantage of sloppy play by the home side for Barker to race through and score.

Rangers best chance of the half fell to Rippey but he was denied by Gareth Barbour in the Mountjoy goal as it remained 1-0 at half time.

Rangers though were transformed in the second half and they were quickly back on level terms. Ciaran Brough’s corner was turned home by Rippey for 1-1.

Teenage debutant Tadgh Hamley - one of four youngsters involved on the day for the home side - was then involved in the ‘Gers second goal as he played the ball down the right hand side to Rippey who rounded Barbour and cut in before tucking to the net.

Rippey then completed his hat-trick. Another move down the right saw Cutler this time round Barbour and from the end-line he pulled the ball back to Rippey who slotted home for 3-1.

And Rangers rounded off the scoring as another teenager, Alex Howe, released Cutler who played the ball across the face of the goal for Browne to finish.
