As temperatures rose this past weekend, four Enniskillen Lakelanders’ swimmers made the trip to Bangor’s Aurora Leisure Complex for the aptly named ‘Bangor Summer Sizzler’ Meet.

Joining competitors from 38 clubs across Ireland the Enniskillen swimmers approached the two-day meet with great confidence with Summer National Qualification times in their sights.

Ellie Dunlop (14) took three seconds off her Freestyle split time in the 200m Individual Medley to win a gold medal. She then went on to win another a gold medal in the 200m Breaststroke event.

Ellie looks forward to her age group Summer National competition in Limerick to race against the best of the four provinces.

Hannah Lynch (14) was delighted to secure a gold medal in the 200m Backstroke on day one of the meet.

The next day she swam the gruelling 1500m Freestyle race for the first time, winning a bronze medal and another qualification time to her collection for the Summer Nationals in Limerick.

James Mongan (16) picked up a bronze medal in the 100m Backstroke and another top five finish in the 16 year old category in the 200m Breaststroke event.

Day two brought him another top five finish in the 100m Breaststroke race along with another PB and qualification time for his age group Summer Nationals in Dublin to add to his collection.

Ava Neal (13) was delighted to hit the wall in the top five in all of her races, in addition to achieving three qualification times for Limerick Summer Nationals in the 200m Backstroke, 200m Freestyle and the 200m Breaststroke events.

Head Coach Ben Wiffen commented on the “good performances from student-athletes who have shown great maturity and organisation to balance their studies for exams with their preparation for swimming at the Summer Nationals in a number of weeks”.

Gala Secretary Michelle Reihill praised the swimmers’ efforts over the long two-day meet.

“Our swimmers yet again showed what they can achieve and did themselves proud, with PBs and medals heading back to Fermanagh.

“The club has swimmers qualified to attend Age Group Summer Nationals in Limerick in early July as well as the Youth and Senior Summer National meet at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin late July, an exciting summer ahead for the Lakelanders.”
