THE Senior crews at Enniskillen Royal Boat Club will head off to Cork to compete in the Irish Rowing Championships, which will start tomorrow (Friday) and continue for what promises to be three days of hot action.

In all the club is sending 58 rowers (26 girls and 32 boys) who will make up 43 crews in the Junior 16 – Junior 19 categories.

ERBC will have three Eights competing in the Men’s Junior Eights.

The first Eight is made up of Marcus Davis Kunze, Nathan Kelly, Oran Harty, George Kernaghan, Kyle Abraham, Calum Timoney, Oliver Khew, Austin Cassidy and Cox Katelyn Fee and they will be looking to land the title they last won in 2019 having been pipped on the line last year by St Joseph’s Rowing Club (The Bish).

On Sunday morning it will be the turn of the Women’s Junior Eights as they look to clinch the title for a third year in a row.

The crew consists of Kate Huddlestone, Laura Turner, Acorn Cassidy, Rhea Cartin McCloskey, Chloe Thompson, Rachel Cullinan, Eva Johnston, Clodagh O’Donnell and cox Jessica Thompson.

Indeed, Laura Turner and Chloe Thompson are going for their third consecutive title which will be an immense achievement.

They will have to be at their best though as they will face strong competition from St Michael’s and Skibbereen.

The Women’s Junior 4 of Acorn Cassidy, Laura Turner, Chloe Thompson and Rachel Cullinan are also reigning champions and will return to defend their title against the crews from Skibbereen, St Michael’s and Castleconnell on Saturday.

There will be also be two boys Junior 16 Eights and two girls Junior 16 crews racing on Friday along with the Junior 16 quads.

Laura Turner and Chloe Thompson will race in the WJ18 Pair.
