Ellie McCartney produced a stunning performance as she clinched gold at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago last night.

The Enniskillen swimmer has enjoyed a sensational summer having already secured European Junior bronze when representing Ireland last month and she has followed that up by powering her way to the title at the Commonwealth Youth Games.

McCartney, representing Northern Ireland at the Games, was involved in a great tussle with England's Sienna Robinson. It was Robinson who led as they reached the final turn but McCartney displayed all her quality as she took the lead over the final 50 metres to secure the gold in a time of 2:30:74mins ahead of Robinson who took silver in 2:31:61mins.
