KINAWLEY manager Dom Corrigan was pleased with the character shown by his players to come from four down and a man down to take a point against Devenish on Saturday evening but he is very aware that they must improve their performance.

“To come out of it with a draw after a performance that was not good, we will take that all day because I just felt that Devenish were the better side more or less all over the pitch,” he said.

“When Conor (Murphy) got sent off it looked bad for us at that stage but we dug in and showed a bit of leadership in that last quarter and a couple of the big players stepped up. Sean McManus knocked over a key score and Danny McGovern then came up with the equaliser which nearly ended up in the net.

“The pleasing part was that we showed the character and resilience to dig deep when the chips were down but overall the performance was not good enough and certainly needs to improve,” he said.

And that improvement will have to start this Friday night when they take on Enniskillen in Brewster Park.

“Enniskillen in Brewster Park is always a tough proposition,” said Corrigan. “I watched them against Ederney and they were very impressive in that second half in particular but we have to focus on ourselves because the bottom line is that the performance we got last Saturday night will be nowhere near good enough. Our focus now is to try and get a better performance from the team on Friday night.”

It was opposite emotions for Devenish player and joint manager Barry Mulrone who was disappointed not to have won after a good performance.

“We were pleased with the performance but I suppose a bit disappointed not get over the line and close it out like I thought we should have. I think if you asked anyone who was at the game they would agree that we were the better team over the course of the 60-odd minutes.

“I thought to a man everyone was superb and you have to take into consideration that for four or five of the lads who started it was their first time playing senior championship football and then we had two players making their championship debuts so to give them that sort of exposure and for them to cope with that is very pleasing. It gives us great heart going into the Ederney game,” he said.

Mulrone expects Ederney to travel to Garrison with the aim of bouncing back after their loss to Enniskillen.

“It is a home game for us which is good but they will have a point to prove after losing to Enniskillen and they will know that there is a lot riding on it, as there is for us.

“It will be a different game in terms of the way they play and it is a different proposition. It will be an interesting battle,” stated Mulrone.
