Enniskillen Rangers 5 Castlederg United 0

Mark Cutler bagged a hat-trick as Enniskillen Rangers moved top of the Mercer League table following Saturday’s 5-0 win over Castlederg United at The Ball Range.

Michael Kerr’s charges took control early on and goals from Kyle Deery and Mark Cutler had them two goals to the good at half-time.

And they pushed on in the second half with Cutler netting another two times while Jake Browne also got on the scoresheet to round off a comfortable afternoon for the ‘Gers.

“We made a really good start and got the two goals but then we stopped and I wasn’t happy with the rest of the first half,” said Kerr.

“We were much better though in the second half and overall it was a really pleasing result.

“We scored five goals and kept a second clean sheet in a row so I can’t really have asked for much more.”

Next up for Rangers is a home Junior Cup clash against FC Moylena and Kerr is hoping to see his side progress as he seeks a good run in the competition.

“They play in Harryville Homers league and they are supposed to be a good side so we won’t be looking any further ahead than this game. With home advantage though I would expect us to get through and I will make no bones about looking to put together a run in the Junior,” he added.

Rangers started the game on the front foot and after a couple of efforts were saved by the visiting goalkeeper the ‘Gers made the breakthrough in the 15th minute. Jordan McClure cut inside and fed Deery and his 25-yard shot nestled in the back of the net to make it 1-0.

A second soon followed as the home side doubled their lead five minutes later. Nathan Khan delivered a peach of a free kick from the left and Cutler produced a great header for 2-0.

Rangers though took their foot off the pedal after this and it remained the same scoreline at half-time but after the interval, they raised their game again.

The third goal arrived on the hour mark as Deery slipped Jason Keenan through. He appeared to have been taken down but play was allowed to continue as the ball fell to Cutler who slotted to the net.

Keenan and Cutler were again involved in number four as Khan’s corner was poked back across the goal by Keenan and Cutler tucked it away at the back post to complete his hat-trick.

And the scoring was rounded off late on as Keenan intercepted the ball as Castlederg looked to play out and he fed Ciaran Brough who picked out Browne and he passed the ball to the corner of the net to leave it 5-0 at the finish.
