IT is all to play for this weekend in the Mannok SFC with the final two places in the semi-finals up for grabs.

And in the Kevin Courtney Car Sales IFC final, places are on the line in a busy weekend of championship action.

SFC QUARTER-FINALS

Kinawley v Belnaleck

(Saturday October 7, Kinawley, 4.30pm)

There will be a keen interest in this derby encounter in Kinawley on Sunday as the Borus and the Art McMurrroughs battle it out for a place in the last four of the competition.

With the group stages out of the way, this is now knockout football and this could be a cagey affair.

Kinawley made a slow start to the campaign with a draw against Devenish followed by defeat to Enniskillen but they found a fine response to that loss by defeating Ederney in their final group game thanks to two late Tomas Corrigan points. Those scores saw Dom Corrigan’s charges take second spot in the group and crucially the advantage of a home quarter-final tie.

Belnaleck shipped two heavy defeats in their opening games to Erne Gaels and Derrygonnelly’s but they bounced back in their final game against Roslea last Sunday to nick a one-point win and take their place in the last eight. Manager Nigel Seaney stated at the outset of the competition that they were hoping to make the knockout stages and take it from there and they have achieved that.

Seaney’s hand has been hampered by the loss of key men Darragh McGurn and Garrett Cavanagh to injury but, although he didn’t feature, McGurn was togged out last week and if available for some part on Saturday would be a big boost for Belnaleck.

The Art McMurroughs are sure to take confidence from that win over Roslea and they do have experienced operators in the likes of Che Cullen, Lee Cullen and Kane Connor while Garvan Quigley has been excellent in attack.

Kinawley have their absences too this year with Corrigan having a number of players unavailable all season but he is where he would want to be at this stage of the season.

He has a nice blend of youth and experience in the ranks with Paddy McGovern, Conor Murphy, Tomas Corrigan and Sean McManus all key players and they too will come into the game with confidence after their win over Ederney last day out.

This could be a low-scoring contest and don’t rule out extra time but Kinawley may just edge it.

Erne Gaels v Ederney

(Sunday October 8, Belleek, 4pm)

This promises to be an exciting encounter in Belleek on Sunday with a semi-final spot up for grabs for the winner.

Erne Gaels impressed en route to second place in Group A with big wins over Belnaleck and Roslea before they lost out by three points to Derrygonnelly in the final group game to see them finish in second place. Manager Seamus Ryder has made no bones about their ambition being to go one better than last year when they were beaten in the final but he will look no further ahead than the challenge provided by Ederney.

Chris Kelly’s side lost to Enniskillen in the opening group game before seeing off a late Devenish rally to take a one-point win. However, they were on the other side of a tight game against Kinawley in their last game to leave them third in the group and facing an away quarter-final.

The St Joseph’s men though have no shortage of quality in their ranks and when they click they are a match for anybody. They are a real threat on the transition through the likes of Declan McCusker and Paul McCusker while in Sean Cassidy and Conor McGee they have scoring intent up front.

Erne Gaels too have no shortage of talent to call on. Ultan Kelm has been superb since returning from America and has proven a real handful for opposition defences with his pace and power. Ryan Lyons has also impressed along with Tommy McCaffrey while they have a scoring threat from all over the pitch.

This could well be another competitive encounter but with home advantage Erne Gaels will be fancied to progress although not by much.

IFC SEMI-FINALS

Teemore v Irvinestown

(Saturday October 7, Tempo, 4.30pm)

Teemore will take on Irvinestown with a place in the IFC final the prize for the winner on Saturday afternoon.

The Shamrocks, under Tony Collins, have been very impressive in the group stages of the competition and they will be keen to continue that against Irvinestown.

Teemore have scored heavily with the likes of Eoin McManus, Colm McNally and Oisin Murphy all landing scores while further back they have the experience of Cian McManus and Damian Lee.

It is a squad with a good blend of youth and experience and they will be targeting a place in the decider.

However, they will know that they will have to be at their best to get past an Irvinestown team who on their day can cause any side problems.

Josh Largo Elis is obviously a big player while youngster Conor O’Hanlon has caught the eye for Damian Gormley’s outfit. Ronan Ormsby and Liam Murphy are also key performers.

The St Molaise side have had four tight encounters to date and that will stand to them on Saturday but it is Teemore who will be expected to shade things and progress.

Tempo v Derrylin

(Sunday October 8, Donagh, 1pm)

The action then moves to Donagh on Sunday as Tempo take on Derrylin in the semi-final.

The Maguires took top spot in their group to progress through to the semi-final and they will be aiming to build on that although they will know that they face a stern test against a Derrylin side who played their league football in Division One and held their own.

Tempo will look to the likes of Aidan Breen, Lorcan McStravick, Tiernan Bogue and Ryan Breen while Derrylin will need big performances from Luke Flanagan, Diarmuid Owens, Jake Smith and Josh Smith.

This has the makings of a close contest and with extra time now on the table it may well take that to separate them. Given their displays so far though Tempo get the hesitant nod to advance.
