Ballinamallard United are on the hunt for a new manager after relieving Harry McConkey of his duties this morning.

A disappointing start to the season sees the Mallards sit tenth in the NIFL Championship table and his dismissal comes following last night's 0-0 draw away to Annagh United.

The Mallards are unbeaten in their last three games where they have recorded a win and two draws but the decision was made to move in a different direction.

Ballinamallard say the decision was made following 'deliberations by  the club committee'.

McConkey took over for his second term as first team manager in March 2018 with the club languishing at the foot of the Premiership table and he almost pulled off the great escape before eventually going down on the final day.

The next season the Ducks enjoyed a memorable and historic run to the Irish Cup final, losing out to Crusaders at the National Stadium at Windsor Park.

And McConkey was close to taking the Mallards back up to the Premiership in the 2019/20 campaign before the season was curtailed due to the outbreak of Covid.

The Ballinamallard statement read:

"Following a challenging start to the season and deliberations by the club committee, Harry McConkey's term as Manager has come to an end at Ballinamallard United FC.

"Harry took over the Ferney Park Club in March 2018 when the club seemed destined for relegation from the Premiership, he put together a series of positive results at the end of that season and they just missed out on staying in the top flight.

"The next season Harry took the Ferney Park side to their first Irish Cup final, indeed the first time that any Fermanagh side reached the final of the prestigious competition.

"The 2019/20 season was looking positive for the Club when we were in second place of the Championship with a game on hand of the league leaders, however covid hit, resulting with the league being brought to premature end with second placed team being denied a play off opportunity.

"We thank Harry for his services, his enthusiasm and the memories he has left at Ferney Park. We wish him and his family well for the future, there will of course always be a warm welcome for him at Ferney Park, a place we trust will hold special memories for him."
