TEEMORE manager Tony Collins soaked up the support from his side’s spectators at full-time on Saturday night as he watched club captain Damien Lee lift the Intermediate Championship trophy in front of the Shamrocks faithful.
Lisnaskea man Collins delivered a first trophy in 11 years in his first year in charge at the club.
Despite a slow start, Teemore got themselves back into proceedings at Brewster Park and Collins had high praise for the persistence his players showed.
“Well, obviously, slightly disappointed in the first 10 to 15 minutes, Derrylin came fast out of the blocks and we were expecting that, but we just didn’t expect to go six points down,” said Collins.
“But, true to the boys and testament to their resolve all year they started to buckle down and they started to show more composure and they were able to battle on and come in within a point at half time.
“The second half has always been, probably a strong point of ours, and we just started to play the way we would have normally played.
“And as I say, with a wee bit more composure and not forcing things we managed to grind Derrylin down.
So, we’re delighted with the result,” Collins added.
Saturday night’s triumph is not the end of the Shamrock’s season as a quick turnaround means they will shortly begin their campaign in the Ulster Club Championship at the Intermediate level.
Collins says he is eager to get underway but realises the next few days are for celebrating.
“We have an Ulster Club competition to look forward to, so I’m really looking forward to getting my teeth into that but we’ll have to enjoy ourselves these coming nights and we’ll get back to training Tuesday and see how we get on with that.
But, definitely, a great bunch of boys to work with and loyal and an honest bunch of boys and that came through today with their honesty.
“Hard work won that today.”
