Enniskillen Athletic 2 Enniskillen Town 3

Johnny Hoy swooped deep in added-on time to snatch all three points for Enniskillen Town in their derby encounter against Enniskillen Athletic at the Lakeland Forum on Saturday.

Town twice led through Conall Quinn goals only for Sean Cassidy and Conor Love to hit back on each occasion for Athletic, and as the game reached a conclusion it was Darren Rodgers’ Athletic outfit who appeared the more likely winners.

But right at the death a Callum Jones cross from the left caused a mix-up at the back for Athletic and Hoy had the simple task of tapping home to clinch all three points for the away side.

Town manager Rory Judge was delighted with the win for his side.

“I said to the boys after the game that sometimes you can look at how you get the points and analyse it too much or dwell too much on what you did wrong in the game but you have to just look at the result in isolation and we’re just delighted to get the three points,” said Judge.

“We didn’t hit the heights we know we are capable of and we still have issues defensively but we always feel that we will score goals and as I said, we’re just happy to get through it.”

His Athletic counterpart Rodgers though felt the outcome was harsh on his side.

“It was a tough result to take. We were very happy with the way we played, we were the better side over the 90 minutes,” he said.

“I thought both teams played some lovely football at times but when we got back to 2-2 I felt there was only one team that looked like scoring, and that was us, and if we showed a wee bit more composure in front of goal we could easily have a couple more goals.

“Instead, we got hit with a sucker punch right at the end, but that’s football,” added Rodgers.

Town controlled a lot of the play in the early stages and with 14 minutes on the clock they took the lead. Darren Freeman was upended by Daniel Goan on the end-line and from the resultant penalty Quinn slotted to the corner for 1-0.

Buoyed by this Town went close to doubling their advantage as Wallace well struck effort from just outside the box forced a fine save out of Ryan McNulty in the Athletic goal.

Conor Tummon was then picked out by a Freeman pull back but he blazed over from 12 yards out.

Just when Town looked to be in control of the game though Athletic hit back to equalise as Glenn Treacy’s cross from the right was headed home by Sean Cassidy.

At the other end, McNulty was again called into action as he produced another good save to this time deny Duwayne McManus while Athletic’s John Reihill fizzed a long-range effort over the bar as it remained 1-1 at the break.

Reihill had another shot pushed away for a corner by Town goalkeeper Gary Doherty early in the second half with Cassidy firing over from the resultant corner.

However, Town were to regain the lead just after the hour mark as Quinn turned home a Conor Watson cross from the right for 2-1 but the lead did not last long as Athletic quickly responded.

Love was clipped in the box and the attacker dusted himself down to fire his penalty into the corner for 2-2.

Athletic began to take the upper hand after this and Cassidy had a good chance to put them ahead when he got on the end of a Love cross from the left but he headed over the bar.

Substitute Lorcan McStravick then had a chance but he couldn’t get any power in his header.

Just when it looked like the sides would have to settle for a share of the spoils though Hoy popped up with the winner.

Jones’ cross was contested by Wallace and the ball spilled out to Hoy who slotted home from close range as Town claimed all three points much to the frustration of Athletic who would have felt they deserved something from the game.
