Enniskillen Rangers 3 Camlough Rovers 0

Enniskillen Rangers manager Michael Kerr acknowledged that his side were far from their best on Saturday but they still had enough to take them past Camlough Rovers to advance to the next round of the Irish Junior Cup.

Jason Keenan had given Kerr’s charges the lead after 12 minutes and then second half goals from Mark Cutler and Jordan McClure secured the win for the ‘Gers with Kerr stating that the result was all that mattered on the day.

“Look, we were not at our best, it was a poor performance and one that I’d rather forget but it was all about getting into the next round, and we did that. They worked hard but didn’t really cause us any problems and thankfully we had enough to take us through,” said Kerr.

Rangers huffed and puffed in the early stages of the encounter but they did go on to open the scoring in the 12th minute. Joel Byrne’s pass was ricocheted into the path of Ciaran Smith. He then fed the ball into Jason Keenan who knocked it past the Camlough centre half before slotting to the net to make it 1-0.

The ‘Gers then thought they had doubled their lead midway through the half when Jordan McClure tucked home from a keen pull back but this was ruled out for offside as it remained 1-0 at the break.

The second half though was only five minutes old when the home side did register their second goal of the day. Mark Cutler was upended in the box and he dusted himself down to confidently convert the resultant penalty to make it 3-0.

And Rangers put the game to bed in the 90th minute as McClure got on the scoresheet, side footing home from a Ronan Beattie cross to wrap up a 3-0 win.

The focus switches back to the league this Saturday for table toppers Rangers and the small matter of a clash with second placed Killen.

“They are all big games if you want to be challenging for the title,” said Kerr. “Killen added quality experienced players in the summer and having been going well but they lost their last game so I’m sure they will be keen to get back to winning ways on Saturday.

“From our perspective though we’ll be looking to pick up the points and hoping to make it back to back defeats for them.”
