A DOMINANT first half display from Kesh secured their passage into the next round of the Junior Cup as they defeated Donemana 5-1.

The Fermanagh side raced into an early lead and were four goals ahead at the break thanks to goals from Ryan Campbell, Danny Wilson and two from Nathan Cashel.

They conceded early in the second half, but the result was never in doubt and Josh Flack completed the victory with a close range strike.

Break

The cup win was Kesh’s first competitive match for over a month, and manager Ryan Campbell was delighted that they showed no adverse effects from the long lay off.

“I was happy with how we played after such a long break,” he admitted.

“We started brightly. I knew their manager, who had coached at Dergview and Institute, and I knew he would have had them well drilled.

“We needed to come out with a good attitude and a good tempo and that is exactly what we did.,” said Cambelle who added: “We got a couple of early goals and that put us on the front foot from the start.

“They rallied a bit in the second half and got a goal, but we knew at half time the game was over and we weren’t going to let a 4-0 lead slip.

“In the last 20 minutes we turned it on again and could have had a couple more.”

Positive opening

Kesh’s positive opening spell was rewarded with their first goal after just seven minutes.

The evergreen Campbell picked up possession and nutmegged one defender before outpacing a second.

His initial shot came back off the goalkeeper’s near post, but it rebounded into his path again and he bundled the ball over the line to open the scoring.

The striker was also pivotal in his team’s second goal after 15 minutes, when he again got the better of the Donemana defence and advanced along the byline before cutting the ball across the penalty area for Nathan Cashel to slide the ball in at the back post.

Goal of the day

Cashel then produced the best goal of the day, curling a long range shot into the top corner of the net from 25 yards out after half an hour.

On the stroke of half time the visitors added a fourth when Josh Flack crossed and Danny Wilson blasted into the roof of the net.

Donemana finally sparked into life in the second half and they pulled a goal back with a header from a corner.

They continued to press forward and forced a succession of corners and set pieces, but the Kesh defence withstood the pressure and came back into the game as the half progressed.

Wilson had a shot saved, Lee Walker rattled the crossbar and Cashel was denied by the goalkeeper before Flack broke through the defence in the closing minutes and added a fifth to round of a comfortable victory.
