An Eimear Smyth goal was the difference between Fermanagh and Leitrim in Donagh on Sunday with the victory moving the Erne Ladies to the top of Division Four.

The top of the table clash saw plenty of intensity from both sides and while Fermanagh managed to take one of their goal chances, Leitrim will rue several chances that saw Fermanagh goalkeeper, Roisin Gleeson, make some outstanding saves.

Along with some stout defending it was enough to push Fermanagh to the league summit halfway through the campaign.

The early exchanges of the game were dominated by Leitrim who showed just how dangerous they could be when they moved the ball quickly after a minute of play.

Fermanagh kicked the ball away during an attack and Leitrim moved up the pitch with wing-back, Laura O'Dowd involved and she would finish the move with a point.

Fermanagh were being wasteful with the final pass and they were punished as Leitrim doubled their lead in the fifth minute.

Michelle Guckian, Sarah Reynonds and Leah Fox worked together for Reyonds to find space to fire over.

Three minutes later they broke at pace for a goal chance but Gleeson was quick off her line to clear the danger.

It was 10 minutes in that Fermanagh got their first score.

Molly McGloin intercepted a ball to start the attack and it ended with Smyth pointing off her left foot.

Shortly after another turnover allowed Fermanagh to counter and Danielle Maguire played in Bláithin Bogue who made it 0-02 apiece.

Fermanagh were beginning to dictate and Smyth hit a fine score from 30 yards to put her side in front.

However, more quick interplay from Leitrim allowed Niamh Tighe to level matters before Leitrim's O'Dowd was denied by Gleeson after her initial shot for a point came back of the post.

Bogue and Megan McGovern would trade scores as the half entered the final 10 minutes while both sides had goal chances.

Gleeson saved from Ailbhe Clancy while Niamh McManus saw her effort cannon off the crossbar before being cleared.

Leitrim captain, Guckian, would convert a free but Fermanagh would respond when good work from Shannan McQuade began an attack which ended with a Smyth effort creeping just inside the post.

And the final score of the half would end up being the difference in the game.

Another Fermanagh turnover saw the ball reach Bogue and she found Smyth who turned and fired past Michelle Monaghan to leave it 1-05 to 0-05 at the break.

Fermanagh almost had the perfect start to the second half as from the throw-in the ball was worked up to McManus but her shot went the wrong side of the post.

At the other end, Fox was denied by Gleeson who deflected the shot onto the post and away.

All of Fermanagh's scores in the second half would come from placed balls from Smyth.

She dusted herself off after 35 minutes to convert and it was a similar story five minutes later to make it 1-07 to 0-05.

And five minutes after that Smyth converted after Joanne Doonan was fouled as Fermanagh were in strong control of proceedings.

Clancy would get Leitrim's first score of the half from a free on 48 minutes and she followed this up with a point from play.

With five minutes to play a strong run from Elise Bruen and pass to O'Dowd allowed the defender to grab her second point of the game and leave the goal between the sides as the visitors began to put more pressure on Fermanagh.

Smyth put four between the sides again with a fine free from the right but the home side were dealt a blow when Seana Feeley was sin-binned late on.

But despite Clancy adding a late fee, Fermanagh were able to hold out for the win.
