Fermanagh Ladies manager, CJ McGourty, was not getting too carried away after his side moved to the top of Division Four with a win over Leitrim.

The three-point victory in the top of the table clash was a deserved one for Fermanagh who were brilliant in defence at times and scored the only goal of the game despite both sides having several throughout.

"I'm very happy with the commitment today. A lot of big plays, a lot of big turnovers. But look it's three points and that’s really it," said McGourty.

He continued: "We may meet along the line again so it's nothing won but it's definitely a step up in terms of performance from where we were over the first couple of weeks so I'm delighted with that."

Looking back at the game, Fermanagh took control after a slow start to proceedings and went in three in front at the break but some mistakes allowed Leitrim to capitalise.

"I think four of their scores in the first half came off our turnovers.

"It's something we addressed at half-time. We didn’t want to overload the messages going out but said simply stop making mistakes in the final third and we'd be alright.

"We did that at times in the second half and we got a little bit better at it but look Leitrim put up a screen there as well.

"It is hard to break down teams at different times and there was a wee bit of wind and a bit of rain came in there in the first half as well but we need to work on the final pass definitely."

The start of the second half saw Fermanagh make sure of the pass and they could have killed the game but a goal chance went begging.

And McGourty gave credit to Leitrim who kept pushing his team to the end: "The first play of the first half we should have had a goal and that might have killed the game.

"But look Leitirm hung in there and they came back as the good team that they are and they scored fantastic points and they were probably unlucky with a couple of goal chances there as well so another day it could have been a different result."

The goal chances McGourty refers to were brilliantly kept out by Fermanagh goalkeeper, Roisin Gleeson. And the Fermanagh manager had nothing but praise for the Donagh player.

"Roisin is brilliant even around the group experience wise.

"She made a couple of good saves in the first half and one hit the bar in the second."

But McGourty pointed out: "We missed a couple of goal chances too so it was a 50/50 game and we managed to get over the line today but we have a lot to work on as well."

Next up for Fermanagh is a trip to Kilkenny and McGourty wants his side to do a "professional job".

"We’ll just have to go and do a professional job. I have a lot of time for their manager and I've been chatting with him over the last couple of weeks.

"All being well we’ll be able to give three or four fringe players a go and we'll obviously have to keep nine or 10 regulars to make sure we get the result.

"But it may be an opportunity to use a bit of the squad and get them game time.

"We are just focussing on next week to get three points and that should nearly get us qualified before we go to Limerick because that will be another tough task," McGourty concluded.
