Erne Wrestling Club is very busy at the moment with upcoming events and hopes that everyone from the area will take advantage of the opportunity to see, first hand, what is going on and even try out this exciting sport - whether to compete in wrestling or just maintain good health and wellbeing.

The club is based in the SouthWest Academy of Sport at the Creamery Business Park in Irvinestown and attracts many people, of all ages, from around Ireland as this is a special facility.

Many other sports teams, like rugby, have attended blocks of wrestling training during their offseason to get the extra benefits of training through the wrestling systems of movement, strength and agility.

Next for the club is the Northern Ireland Closed Championships which is for competitors who reside in Northern Ireland and is part of the pathway for selection to the National squad.

It takes place next Saturday, February 24 at the SouthWest Academy of Sport and is free to spectators.

As part of this Northern Ireland closed competition, SouthWest Academy will also be holding an Open Day for everyone to get a good look at the facilities and what is available to the whole community.

The Academy is a very large unique space for many different types of training, rehabilitation, fun and games.

It houses Erne Wrestling Club but also attracts high-level athletes, trainers and people who are looking for a different fitness experience.

Amongst other things, it is a space that allows people to work on their rehabilitation efforts in between visits with their physio. It caters for birthday parties where weather is never an issue. Fermanagh Art Club also uses this space for different events.

If you are a personal trainer, yoga or Pilates etc instructor, this could be an added benefit for you and your clients.

As an example of what can be achieved, three of Erne Wrestling's great ambassadors for the sport travelled to Bury, England last weekend for the English Senior Championships to haul in more medals.

Darragh Love(79kg) with a bronze while still a junior and Cameron Clements(92kg) also with a bronze medal.

The favourite for the gold at 79kg, Ivan Enchev started out as expected, dominating his first match but had to withdraw due to an injury.

Keep an eye on their social media for other exciting competitions coming up over the next few months.

Remember to come along on Saturday, February 24, from 11am onwards to support the NI Closed competition and see the facility for yourself at the Open Day.
