Fermanagh Ladies sealed their place in the semi-finals for the Lidl Ladies National Football League Division Four as they overcame Limerick by five points.

Eimear Smyth was again to the fore for the Erne Ladies as she seven out of the nine scores, including all six points in the first half.

Fermanagh manager, CJ McGourty, was pleased that his side have booked their semi-final spot but knows there are aspects of his side's game that can still be improved.

Looking back at the game and the way it panned out McGourty said: "We probably know it was going to come to that.

"Just the way they set up and they were very defensive and we had planned for that and that is what we knew was going to come.

"It was all well and good for them to keep us to nine points but they probably didn’t do enough to score and hurt us.

"Look we missed a lot of chances too, we turned over ball that we wouldn’t be happy with turning over but we're still just happy to get over the line and know that there are improvements to be made as well."

The first half saw Smyth fire Fermanagh into a 0-05 to no score lead after 15 minutes both through scores from play and frees.

However, Limerick did have a sight of goal but goalkeeper Roisin Gleeson continued her fine form will a great block.

Limerick eventually got on the scoreboard in the 18th minute through Iris Kennelly and this was followed up by a Lauren Ryan point with five minutes of the half to play.

Smyth got her sixth score of the day shortly after but Limerick would finish strong and fire over two points to leave it 0-06 to 0-04 at half-time.

Those scores were to be the last for the Treaty side with Fermanagh managing to hit the target three times over the second 30 minutes.

Blaithin Bogue hit two scores while Smyth added another to secure Fermanagh's semi-final spot.

Reflecting McGourty said: "What I am really happy with is we asked different people to go and play different roles they adapted really well to it.

"When teams drag you down and want to be defensive it's just about finding a way of getting over the line.

"For the last two years, they haven’t beaten Leitrim and they haven’t beaten Limerick and we have beaten them this year so the girls can take a lot of confidence from that."

Next up for Fermanagh is Derry this Sunday.

And while in recent years Fermanagh have been dominant McGourty is taking nothing for granted.

"I'm not sure what to expect. They have a new management team on board. It's just another game like every other game. It will bring its own strengths and weaknesses but we will have to deal with it.

"We will be going in as massive favourites but we will be preparing the exact same, doing our homework on Derry because we want to keep in the good habits we are in."

McGourty also added that the game will give an opportunity to some of his players to get more game time: "We said to the girls after the match that the starting 15 are going really well because of how hard they are being pushed at training.

"So we'll probably not be as experimental as we were against Kilkenny but we will give four or five people who maybe got limited game time at the weekend or didn’t get game time a bit of game time this weekend.

"We still want to try and top the group and keep confidence going.

"It will be a mix and match where we want to rest a couple but we also want to try and make sure that we guarantee a win and top the group.

"And it's an Ulster derby and we can't take anything for granted."

Fermanagh play Derry at 2pm Sunday March 3 in Donagh.
