Lisnaskea 1-07 Teemore 1-07
Lisnaskea and Teemore played out a 1-07 to 1-07 draw at Emmet Park on Friday as last year’s Intermediate champions got their season underway for the 2024 campaign.
Lisnaskea started off their season with a win over St. Pat's, Donagh last weekend as Hayden Lynch’s goal made the difference and it would be the same player’s point that earned them a draw with Teemore in the closing stages on Friday evening.
“Start of the year, it was a good enough game in some regards, it was a competitive game, but a lot of mistakes made in it as well now,” Teemore manager Tony Collins said.
“It was a game of errors on our behalf, we hit the crossbar twice and the woodwork twice and some different ball handling mistakes but it’s the start of the year and it’s to be expected at this stage.”
Teemore are still without some key figures with Lisnaskea also waiting on players to come back.
“We had four pre-season games, a lot of the lads would have been playing junior football too so we would have crisscrossed the both, but we played four challenge games in total,” Collins added.
For John Reihill, it was another positive outing as the Emmets sit top of 2B in the Club Players’ Competition.
“Tight game,” manager Reihill said after Friday’s encounter.
“We defended well with some wayward shooting and attack play. We were the better team in the first-half and in the second-half Teemore were on top and when they got their goal were the likely winners.”
Lisnaskea led 1-03 to 0-03 at halftime as Lynch grabbed two points with another coming from Ethan McCaffrey.
The ‘Skea goal came with 15 minutes played as the returning Tom Clarke won possession in the middle of the field and a well-worked hand-passing move resulted in Paul Mohan tapping home with his fist from close range.
Scores from Justy McDade, McCaffrey and Lynch kept the hosts ahead with McNally and Aaron Lee responding.
A goal with under 10 minutes to go gave the Shamrocks the lead heading into the closing stages as Damien Lee applied a neat finish on the ground.
However, Skea would level it in the end with Lynch converting a free to mean the sides would share the spoils.
Lisnaskea face neighbours Maguiresbridge up next at Emmet Park, while Teemore host St. Pat's at St. Mary’s Park on Friday.
