In the first of the round robin games, the Western Juniors came up against Mid Ulster Zone, our juniors got off to a good start with B. Power’s rink securing three shots, S. Cadden’s rink picked up two shots and D. Graydon’s rink dropped a single after the first end. In the next end all three western rinks pick up a shot each leaving the overall scoreline at 8–1 in favour of Western. In the third end across the three mats, Western lost a total of seven shots. After four ends played, B. Power’s rink secured three shots, S. Cadden’s rink picked up two shots and D Graydon’s rink drop a single shot. With five points up for grabs the three rinks needed to win each of their games to gain a point each and the overall shots total would secure another two points. At the halfway stage after the five ends had been played, Western juniors were now trailing after B. Power’s rink dropped a single, S. Cadden’s rink dropped three and D. Graydon’s rink dropped two shots. The scoreline now stood at 15–13 shots in favour of Mid Ulster and two of the rinks were losing their games. In the sixth end, B. Power’s rink continued their winning ways by securing a single, S. Cadden’s rink were struggling in their game after dropping two shots and D. Graydon’s rink was crawling back into there game by picking up a single shot. Over the next two ends, S. Cadden’s rink secured five shots to draw their game level at 10–10 each, B. Power’s rink dropped a single and then picked up two shots leaving there scoreline at 9–4 in their favour and on D. Graydon’s rink they also had dropped a single and then pick up two shots to leave there scoreline at 4–6 down. With all to play for in the final two ends, B. Power’s rink secured two single shots to win their game 11–4 and secure the only point of the match for Western. S. Cadden’s rink unfortunately dropped a two and a five in theit remaining two ends to lose their game 10-17. On the other rinks mat D. Graydon’s rink dropped two single shots to lose their game 4–8. Mid Ulster had won two games thus gaining two points plus the overall shots total to secure the final two points up for grabs. Western 1pt Mid Ulster 4pts.

The Western Juniors did not disappoint. They came out revitalised and after three ends played, D. Graydon’s rink had secured three single shots on each end to lead by 3–0, B. Power’s rink had picked up four shots but had dropped a three to lead 4–3 and S. Cadden’s rink had secured a single, a two and a three to lead by 6–0. By the fifth end, all three rinks were still winning, D. Graydon 3–2, B. Power 6–3 and S. Cadden 7–3. After eight ends had been played, Western was dominating the game with D. Graydon’s rink 5–3 up, B. Power’s rink 11–5 up and S. Cadden’s rink leading his game 10–5. On the ninth and tenth end, D. Graydon’s rink dropped a single and secured a single to win their game 6–4. B. Power’s rink dropped a single and secured three shots to run out winners in their game 14–6 and S. Cadden’s rink secured a single and dropped a two to still win their game 11–7. At the end of play Western had secured three points for winning their three games plus an extra two points for the overall total shots. This now left Western topping the table with six points and two games played, Mid Ulster had four points and one game played and South Tyrone with one game played and no points. All Western could do now was to sit and wait for the outcome of the final game to be played between Mid Ulster and South Tyrone to determine who would get through to the semi final spot. We knew who Western would be supporting in this match and South Tyrone did not disappoint the players and fans of Western. They went on to win all three games and secure the full five points over Mid Ulster thus leaving the Western Juniors to top the table and gain the remaining semi final place up for grabs. The Western Juniors now play on the March 1, 2014 (venue still to be decide) and taking part in the other semi final places will be Armagh Zone, North West Zone and North Down Zone.
