Green Party to stand a Fermanagh candidate in General Election

The Enniskillen woman is the first Green Party General Election candidate to stand for the Fermanagh and South Tyrone constituency.

Tanya is a long-standing member of the Green Party and is the current chair of the Fermanagh and South Tyrone group and Northern Ireland membership secretary.

The mother-of-three has been a campaigner in the frack-free movement and was the website editor and legal co-ordinator for the Fermanagh Fracking Awareness Network. She is also deeply concerned with cross-community issues, as secretary and former chair of the Fermanagh Churches Forum and a founder member of St Michael’s Parish Welcoming Group.

Tanya studied at Cambridge and York Universities and is a former solicitor and teacher. She has lived in County Clare, England, Italy and the United States and is the author of eight books, most recently the novel Fracking Up. She is married to Martin, who works in IT and has recently joined the Ballyreagh Silver Band, and they have three sons: Gawain, a chess grandmaster, Rory, a musician and performance poet and Aidan, a student at the Erne Integrated College. Tanya can often be seen cycling around Enniskillen or walking with the family dog Robbie, an elderly Border Terrier.

Tanya comments: "The Green Party has led the campaign against fracking in both Stormont and Westminster and our members have worked hard on the ground to keep our communities safe. The people of Fermanagh have shown in this campaign and in many other ways that they are eager to set old divisions aside and to create a better future for us all and for our children. I believe that they deserve the opportunity to build on that co-operation and vision by voting Green in May."
