LISNASKEA is the proposed location for a new secondary school to be formed by amalgamating St. Comhghall's College, Lisnaskea and St. Eugene's College, Rosslea, The Impartial Reporter understands.

While news of the merger is well known, the location of the new school – at the current St. Comhghall's site - had never been publicised.

Director of the Education Authority (EA) Western Region Barry Mulholland is to announce a two month public consultation on the proposed amalgamation next week.

It is proposed that both schools close and a new school opens on the site of the existing St. Comhghall’s College, Lisnaskea, from September 1, 2016.

The new school would require a new name.

The Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS), on behalf of the Trustees of Aghalurcher Parish and Rosslea Parish submitted its proposal to EA Western region calling for: a new Catholic maintained, co-educational, 11-19, post primary school for 650 pupils (an amalgamation of St. Comhghall’s College and St Eugene’s College) be established in Lisnaskea with effect from 1 September 2016, or as soon as possible thereafter.

In order for the amalgamation to proceed, approval is needed from the Department of Education for the “discontinuation” of St. Comhghall's and St. Eugene's.

This development proposal will be open to a two month public consultation from next Thursday. It will then go to Education Minister John O’Dowd for consideration.
