LETTERBREEN woman, Corinna Power, is demanding answers from BT over their failure to deliver proper broadband coverage to her area.

Living just seven miles out of Enniskillen, Corinna's current broadband works off the Springfield exchange.

But with a speed of around a quarter of a megabite, she is seriously questioning the point of paying for the service.

In May this year the mother of one thought her luck was turning when her son spotted engineers installing a broadband cabinet right outside her home.

But with the work completed before the end of the Summer, Corinna says she is still not able to access a faster broadband speed.

"I could go out and literally plug into the cabinet directly I am that close to the box. So you can imagine my frustration that we are now in November and we still no further forward."

The cabinet boasts that superfast fibre broadband is available in her area, but Corinna begs to differ.

"Broadband has always been rubbish in Letterbreen," she says.

Explaining that her son, Brandon, in particular needs broadband for his homework, Corinna says she is never guaranteed that her internet will work at all.

"I didn't have a landline but I had to pay for one just to get the broadband," she explains, "I never use the phone -- it is literally just for the broadband.

"It only has a speed of a quarter of a megabite. It took months for BT to even get that stabilised. And that was with me ringing constantly to make complaints. But even now it drops off and could disappear.

"If you had a bill you needed to pay online quickly, you are never guaranteed that you could do that. It could just sit with the timer spinning away and do absolutely nothing.

"I upgraded my mobile recently. It took 18 hours to do a software update.

"In the end I went to someone else's house and I was able to restore my whole iCloud back-up in half an hour. That just shows you the service that we should be getting. Instead it is slowing grinding away at home."

Corinna spoke to the engineers who installed the broadband cabinet.

"They said they were processing orders through the box.

"But when I spoke to one of the BT staff, they told me that they were 'still exploring solutions'.

"In the mean time I was having to pay extortionate charges for going over the limit because it takes that long to download anything at home.

"It could take Brandon days to download something that should only take about half an hour."

Corinna was told she would be moved to an 'unlimited contract' while BT worked to get a solution to the problem.

"That was months ago," she says.

"I can't see why we should have to pay the same amount of money as someone who is actually getting a proper broadband service. But BT have the monopoly, if I could, I would go elsewhere."

A BT spokesperson said: "Fibre broadband is currently available in the Letterbreen area however some of our line plant records need to be updated to enable a full service to be provided.

"Engineers are currently carrying out the work necessary to rectify the situation. Thank you for bringing this to our attention."
