ENNISKILLEN 10K will take place on Saturday, June 11, 2016.
It has been proposed that the event be included as part of a Northern Ireland 10K series, known as the Novosco Grand Prix.
The Enniskillen 10K has been organised in its current form since 2005. The cost to organise the event is £20,000 of which Fermanagh and Omagh District Council (FODC) provide £7,000.
A report to a recent Regeneration and Community committee meeting proposes that Novosco, a Belfast-based cloud technology provider, will sponsor the 10K series and Enniskillen 10K will be part of this, becoming a widely advertised event. It would mean that Novosco timing chips would have to be used.
The report adds: “Competitors can participate in the Novosco Grand Prix events so as to build up points so they can become overall series Champions. The series will be sponsored by Novosco. Being part of the series will help promote the Enniskillen 10K and will also help ensure that there will be additional competitors. As a round of the series, Novosco will sponsor £500 to increase the prize fund.”
The Enniskillen 10K “provides a 'feel good' factor throughout the county,” the report says. It is proposed to seek support from the local Rotary Club and other clubs to assist on the day.
At the next full Council meeting, Councillors will ratify the recommendations to provide up to £7,000 to the Enniskillen 10K and to include it in the Novosco 10K series.
