HACKERS have attacked the website of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council.

The platform that hosts the minutes of Council meetings was hacked by a group called AnonCoders, who claim to target Israeli government and ‘anti-muslim’ sites.

Council officials have refused to confirm that the website has been hacked. Instead, they told The Impartial Reporter that the Council purchased a new platform with improved features for managing meetings last year, and the links to meetings have been removed while IT is working at transferring over to the new platform.

However, a link to a November 2015 committee meeting throws up a cryptic message from AnonCoders.

Set up at the beginning of 2015, AnonCoders are understood to have been responsible for a spate of hacking attacks on government, university, cinema and news websites across Europe and America in early 2015.

In May 2015 the hackers took control of the Republican Party of Kentucky’s website for a number of days and said they did it to spread the message that Muslims are not terrorists. In July 2015 the group claimed responsibility for hacking into and leaking more than 23,000 Twitter accounts. It also contacted UK technology website ITProPortal.com and announced a “cyber war” against the Israeli Government.

The hackers have posted a message on the local Council’s website which reads: “Hacked By AnonCoders - Free Palestine. The Paris Attack Was NOT By Muslims.”

It continued: “Stop Blaming ISLAM For All Those False Flags Done By The Zionists … Islam Was Also Not Responsible For 9-11 Or In London, Moscow, Munich Or Now In France. Please Stay Real And Dont Get Twisted By Those Fake And Manipulated Media Cooporations Which Are Spreading Lies 24 Hours A Day.”

The hackers taking responsibility for the breach of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council’s website call themselves: Unknown Al, Black Worm, DarkShadow-TN, Dr.T3rr0r and Bl4ck Punisher.

A message on their facebook page reads: “We are AnonCoders. We are the Cyber-Resistance. EXPECT US”.

It is believed that the Council website was hacked over the weekend or at the beginning of the week.

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council had not responded to our query at the time of going to press.
