SDLP candidate Richie McPhillips has been elected to the Assembly, clinching back the seat that the party lost to Sinn Fein in 2011.

Meanwhile, the sixth seat has went to Sinn Fein's Sean Lynch. John Feely has been eliminated.

"Protestants and Catholics voted for me in this election; I am a man of the community and this community is man, woman and child, Protestant and Catholic. I doesn't matter to me where someone goes to Church on Sunday," said a jubliant McPhillips moments ago.

A huge cheer erupted from McPhillip's supporters when they realised that he had beaten John Feely on the final count.

Sinn Fein ran four candidates in this election but are leaving with only two seats. In 2011, SDLP's Tommy Gallagher lost his seat to Sinn fein's Phil Flanagan.

It is understood that some UUP voters placed McPhillips as their third preference.

Mr McPhillips served on Fermanagh and Omagh District Council
representing the Erne East Ward since 2014. His grandfather was the
first nationalist chairman of Clones Town Council and both his late
father and his brother were local councillors. He is an insurance
broker from Newtownbutler.
