A charity shop in Enniskillen has raised £1.8 million from selling clothes, homeware and books donated by the public.
The Cancer Research Northern Ireland shop at Townhall Street, Enniskillen opened 20 years ago this week and in its first day of trading, broke the UK record of £4,000. In addition to the £1.8m raised for the charity from sale proceeds, a further £30,000 was raised in gift aid in the past three years.
Now around 1,000 people have signed up to gift aid.
Manager of the shop, Pearl Priddey, who has been in charge since the first day, has thanked all their loyal customers for their support over the past 20 years and to all their donors for clothes, homeware, books and money donations in memory of loved ones, gifts in lieu of birthdays, anniversaries, coffee mornings, barbecues and street collections.
Pearl said the success of the shop would not be possible without the many volunteers who have given up their time to assist with the smooth running of the shop, street collections and those who knit regularly for them.
At this time, Pearl has remembered her first Area Manager, Heather McMillan and the volunteers who have passed away, some of them through cancer illnesses.
These include Mary Elliott, who was voted Volunteer of the Year in both NI and UK, Mary Crawford, Ida McCausland, Rosaleen Burns, Angela Concannon and Elaine Crawford.
