One of the last remaining churches built with corrugated iron in Ireland and still in use, situated just across the Fermanagh border in Co. Leitrim, has celebrated Heritage Week in the Republic of Ireland with a special afternoon service on Sunday.
The Church of Ireland parish of Lurganboy is based around the Chapel of Ease close to the village of the same name a short distance from Manorhamilton.
The Chapel of Ease is one of a number of churches in the Manorhamilton Group of Parishes looked after by the Rev. Brendan McCarthy and is a unique building. The foundation stone was laid in 1862 on the site of the old military barracks and the church was built at a cost of £350 by Messrs Tupper and Co., Birmingham, coming flat packed.
On Sunday last, a "Gathering of God's People" took place at which parishioners and guests celebrated Heritage Week.
