Former Sinn Fein MLA Phil Flanagan is back in an election dogfight, this time for one of the top posts in Fermanagh GAA.
The Tempo Maguires man is among the nominations for vice-Chairman of the Fermanagh County Executive, the administrative power behind GAA in County Fermanagh.
Mr. Flanagan, who lost out in this year’s Assembly election and was brought to court by Westminster MP Tom Elliott over a libellous tweet, could hold the second most powerful position in local GAA after Monday’s County Convention which is being held in the Westville Hotel.  He has been out of public life since the May election.
In January he was ordered by the High Court to pay libel damages to Mr. Elliott for falsely suggesting in a tweet that he had harassed and shot people during his previous career as a soldier.
Mr. Elliott served in the Ulster Defence Regiment and the Royal Irish Regiment for several years.
