DONAL Ó Cófaigh has claimed a crisis is being “engineered” in the NHS through underfunding “with the aim of opening more and more health care services in the private sector.”
“Long before anyone knew that there would be an election, we were out campaigning against the GP closure crisis in Fermanagh,” said the Labour alternative candidate.
Mr. Ó Cófaigh launched this campaign last Wednesday describing March 2 as “a change election.”
“Growing numbers of voters recognise the need for a different type of politics,” he said.
“The RHI scandal came on the back of investigations on the channelling of public monies to paramilitaries and connected parties through the social investment fund. Now the Executive parties are facing their first non sectarian crisis and there’s real potential for voices outside the two voting blocs to come forward.”
There is a need for “a different type of politics and a different type of politician,” he believes.
“I’m not a career politician, I’m a lifelong campaigner. I’m committed to building cross community campaigns on issues like fracking or to defend public services.”
Mr. Ó Cófaigh says he is not part of the “gravy train” but “instead rooted in working class struggle.”
