A 33-YEAR-OLD woman caught driving with a six-year-old child moving about in the boot of her car has been ordered to attend court after a judge heard an outline of the facts in the case.

Laura Robinson, of Alderwood Park, Salloon, Ballinamallard, was charged with using a motor vehicle without insurance at Coa Road, Enniskillen, carrying a child in the rear without a seat belt, not displaying ‘L’ plates and being an unaccompanied ‘L’ driver on October 7, 2016.

Defending solicitor, Michael Fahy, entered guilty pleas on behalf of his client, who did not attend Fermanagh Magistrates Court for the hearing on Monday.

The court heard that, at 4.30pm, the attention of police travelling in an unmarked vehicle was drawn to a car being driven by the defendant. Officers could clearly see an unrestrained female child moving around in the boot of the car.

Due to concerns over the child’s safety, officers activated their vehicle’s blue lights and brought the defendant’s car to a stop. They noted that the child was still in the rear of the vehicle.

Robinson, who told the officers that the child was six-years-old, admitted that she only held a provisional licence.

Upon hearing the facts in the case, deputy district judge, Philip Mateer, said he thought the defendant should be in court to be spoken to from the bench. He adjourned the case until Monday, February 27 for the defendant to attend.
