GREEN Party candidate Tanya Jones (above, third left) has suggested an innovative way to improve Enniskillen town centre: pedestrianising it.
The environmentalist will contest the March 2 election for the second time in less than a year. An avid cyclist, Miss Jones says there are benefits to closing off the town centre to traffic.
Asked if she backed the idea of pedestrianising Enniskillen’s main streets, she said: “Yes, I do.”
“We’ve got fantastic shops and cafes along there and when the cars are crawling up it’s difficult for pedestrians to cross the road. It’s not so attractive for people to relax and take the time to really explore it.
“There are questions of parking, access and loading and all of those things. I think it would be a great boost to the businesses and to Enniskillen,” she said.
