A 20 year old man charged with the attempted murder of a baby in Enniskillen at the weekend has been remanded in custody.

Timuras Kozlov, a Lithuanian national of Derrychara Drive, Enniskillen, is charged with attempting to murder the infant on Saturday, May 6.

It is understood that the baby remains in a critical but stable condition following the incident on the Castlecoole Road in the town.

Kozlov was brought before Omagh Magistrates Court this morning (Tuesday), and led into the dock, where he was accompanied by an interpreter.

A PSNI detective constable, who confirmed that she was the investigating officer, told the court that she was aware of the facts and circumstances in the case and believed she could connect the defendant to the charge.

Defending solicitor, Garry Smyth, told the court that he would not be making a bail application on behalf of his client at this stage.

Mr. Smyth then asked the investigating officer to clarify that Mr. Kozlov, through the course of four interviews, maintained that this incident had been an accident.

"That's correct," she replied.

The solicitor also asked the detective to clarify that the defendant had cooperated with the police in answering all the questions, was not known to the police in this jurisdiction or Lithuania and was in employment locally.

Mr. Smyth added that he had no further questions.

District judge, Bernie Kelly, remanded the defendant into custody at Hydebank to appear before Fermanagh Magistrates Court, via video link, on Monday, May 22.
