THE Public Prosecution Service (PPS) intends to bring murder charges against two further suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of a wedding guest in Newtownbutler over two years ago, it has emerged.

Bernard ‘Barney’ McGinley, a 63-year-old grandfather from county Longford, was shot dead in front of his wife Brigid while attending a wedding at St Mary’s Church, Newtownbutler on February 11, 2015.

Shortly after the incident two men, 47-year-old Patrick McGinley and his 27-year-old son William, both of Lisfarrell, Edgeworthstown, County Longford, were charged with his alleged murder.

William McGinley is further charged with the attempted murder of ‘Barney’ McGinley’s son, Bernard McGinley Junior, on the same occasion.

Both men are currently out on bail, subject to strict conditions.

In a case that has been beset by delays for various reasons over the last two years, they remain the only two people charged with murdering Mr. McGinley.

However, after the latest hearing in the case at Fermanagh Magistrates Court on Monday morning, it has emerged that the PPS now intend to prosecute a further two suspects in connection with the alleged murder.

A spokesperson for the PPS has confirmed this week that charges are to be brought against two more suspects.

However, he added that they were both living in the Republic of Ireland and had yet to appear before a court in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, in Fermanagh Magistrates Court on Monday, district judge Nigel Broderick adjourned the case against Patrick and William McGinley once again until Monday, June 5, when a preliminary enquiry is due to take place.
