“Music plays such an important part in children’s lives and we as a school community recognise the joy and opportunities music can give the children.”
This comment was made this week by Fermanagh School Principal, Mr. Brian Treacy whose school has achieved exciting recognition.
Top marks go to Holy Trinity Primary School, Enniskillen which has become the first “Champion School of Music” in the Education Authority’s (EA’s) Western Region.
Principal Brian Treacy said he was delighted with the accolade and paid tribute to the children, staff and parents along with the Music section of the Education Authority for helping to gain the recognition.
Mr. Treacy outlined: “We have implemented a range of different musical programmes across the school here in Holy Trinity each of which gives every child a chance to enjoy music whether it is the whole class instrumental tuition for every P5 child or the Musical Pathways programme which runs from Nursery to Primary 7, the string or wind ensemble or the senior and junior choir every child has the chance to enjoy music in the school.”
Simon O’Hare, EA music tutor commented: “At Holy Trinity the Whole Class Instrumental Programme (WCIP) is designed to engage children in instrumental learning. It is an innovative and important element in a musical pathways programme providing a new way of identifying, enabling and supporting larger numbers of children to benefit from instrumental tuition and the life transforming experiences that can result. Music Service aspirations are about much more than singing or playing an instrument. As a result of these programmes we will see happier, more musical, successful, confident and self-assured young people and that is certainly the case in Holy Trinity. Many children, who would not otherwise have been given the opportunity to learn, have been enthused and motivated by the WCIP and Musical Pathways to Learning (MPL) programmes. They have discovered musical talent and found fulfilment through music. It is unlikely many of these children would have been recognised without these programmes.”
Mr. Treacy acknowledged that as Principal he was delighted with the partnership between Holy Trinity Primary School and the EA Music Service which had been a significant and positive feature of the programmes and had enhanced the junior and senior choirs in the school.
He said: “The school has embraced the importance of access for all pupils, from nursery through to year 7, and is actively involved in shared planning and decision making. I am delighted that Holy Trinity is the first ‘Music Champion School’ in the Education Authority and would like to pay tribute to Mr. O’Hare and his staff for their work in our school.”
