THE work of Fermanagh photographer, Mamraz Nagi, has been recognised three times over in the space of the last few months. The former lecturer at South West College in Enniskillen has had images awarded in three different international photography competitions.
In the Monochrome Photography Awards, three of Mamraz’s images received ‘Honourable Mentions in March. The recognition builds upon Mamraz’s success last year in this global competition where he had an image awarded.
“I was delighted to find that three images were awarded ‘Honourable Mentions’ in two different categories,” he said, “The contest received over 8,000 submissions from 81 countries from around the globe. It’s pretty cool to see my images from three different counties in Ireland (Cavan, Mayo and Louth) up there in the mix.”
A month prior and in a separate competition, Mamraz received an ‘Honourable Mention’ in the 2016 International Photography Awards. The theme for this particular image was ‘Climate Change’. His shot, taken on the Bluestack Mountains, entitled ‘Harness the Earth’ depicts how man has gone to extreme lengths to harness the earths energy.
“The windmills in the image are located deep within the Bluestack Mountains and show how, on this occasion, the huge structures can be dwarfed by the beauty of the landscape and golden light of nature,” Mamraz explained.
Two further images were awarded in the prestigious Epson International Pano Awards 2016. “I received a ‘Silver Award’ for my self portrait on top of Mount Errigal and my panoramic image of Crohy Head Sea Arch was awarded a ‘Bronze Award’,” said Mamraz. “I don’t take a huge number of panoramic images so I’m delighted the two images that I submitted were both awarded.”
