THE Lady of the Lake Festival was in full swing on Wednesday as Irvinestown hosted the annual Fair Day.

Always featuring something out of the ordinary, this year’s fair day included a controversial ‘cock-fighting’ contest and an RHI scheme-inspired wood pellet spitting competition.

As part of the celebrations, Irvinestown’s main street boasted an array of stalls, offering arts and crafts, food gifts and other items.

A packed programme for the 2017 fair day also featured a Marionette String Puppet Show, a presentation of prizes for Irvinestown’s best gardens, poitin making, a model miniature farm display, a vintage tractor parade, Erne Highland dancers, the award-winning Jets cheerleading team and a competition to find the fastest speaker in Fermanagh!

The festival’s variety of activities for all ages continued on Thursday, starting in the morning with a youth tennis and games camp at the Bawnacre Centre.

A guided walking tour delving into Irvinestown’s rich history took place in the afternoon, beginning in the graveyard behind the Town Clock.

The walk took in the Church of Ireland war graves, the Celtic Garden, Famine Graveyard, Murphy’s Stone and Lady of the Lake statue.

Also taking place on Thursday afternoon was a senior citizen’s party in Mahon’s Hotel and a fun day and Teddy Bears Picnic at Tickety Moo, Killadeas.

There was a fancy dress parade on Thursday night in which participants walked, or strutted, through Irvinestown’s main street in keeping with the theme of ‘Glitz, Glamour and Rock N’ Roll’.

Wrapping up Thursday’s events was a charity dance in Mahon’s Hotel featuring a host of local country music talent in aid of the Chernobyl Children Appeal NI.

Friday afternoon saw the annual Bawnacre Summer Sports Day on the new 3G pitch.

The celebrations continued on Friday evening with the annual vintage vehicle parade, followed by the Festival of Lights.

Lorry drivers from across Fermanagh and further afield arrived for a spectacular display of lights, led by a torchlight parade by the Aughakillymaude Community Mummers.

Throughout the night, there was a variety of music both on the street and in Mahon’s Hotel.

As part of the entertainment today (Saturday), the acclaimed St. Eugene’s Brass Band played on the main street this afternoon.

An hour later, the World Hole Digging Championship got underway.

Ahead of Sunday’s fitting finale for the festival, there will be the Truckers Dance in the Delany Suite of Mahon’s Hotel tonight, starting at 10pm.

Tomorrow (Sunday), the last day of this year’s Lady of the Lake, a busy programme of events will begin at 8.30am with a charity cycle around Lough Erne in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

This will be followed by a bicycle race, featuring 25, 35 and 60-mile routes. Helmets must be worn.

Then, the Irvinestown Truck Festival, featuring a convoy of lorries, will bring the 2017 festival to a spectacular end.

In aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care, the large convoy, led by Radio Ulster’s Hugo Duncan, will travel from Irvinestown to Lisnarick to Kesh to Ederney and then back to Lisnarick before making its way through Enniskillen and Ballinamallard and then returning to Irvinestown.
