A FERMANAGH butcher has found sizzling success after creating Prosecco flavoured sausages.
Robert Graham said he wanted to do something “adventurous” after holidaying in County Antrim and thought he would try infusing pork with the popular sparkling wine.
Since then Mr. Graham, who works at Nixon Meats in Tempo, has been inundated with customers eager to taste the unusual offering devised by himself, Brian Woods and Dessie Kerr.
“I thought we could go really mad with the whole thing. It’s a bit strange, it’s not something you’d see, you usually see plain pork, but you have to be adventurous,” he told The Impartial Reporter.
He recently tried whiskey flavoured sausages too.
“They went down well although I didn’t put enough whiskey in them,” he laughed.
The idea for Prosecco flavoured meat has sparked considerable interest on social media, explained the butcher, but he doesn’t believe it will be an alternative to anyone wanting to go out at the weekend.
“It’s very popular, it has really taken off. Although I don’t see two boys looking for half a dozen of Prosecco sausages on a Saturday night and staying in with a few chips instead of going for a few drinks in Enniskillen,” laughed Mr. Graham.
“It’s a bit of craic and has been very enjoyable, I think you’d have to wait an hour or two before driving though,” he joked.
Mr. Graham believes the possibilities for exploring with pork are “endless” and hopes to try cabbage and bacon flavoured sausages one day.
“When you start something like this you could add anything to do, it’s great to experiment,” he said.
When asked if his Prosecco flavoured sausages have left anyone in Tempo with a sore head, Mr. Graham laughed: “There are probably a few sore heads around here but not from my sausages.”
