Ariana Grande is the American singer whose concert in Manchester was attacked by terrorists, and her outpouring of sympathy of the victims of Las Vegas is certainly heartfelt.

It’s actually hard to take in the events of this week; nearly 60 people killed and more than 500 injured while attending a concert. The numbers almost blur into unreality and perhaps the most chilling thing about this unspeakable horror was the sound of the noise of gunfire which seemed to go on for ever.

Ariana Grande tweeted: “My heart is breaking for Las Vegas. We need love, unity, peace, gun control…”

It may seem a forlorn hope for any of that as this mad, mad world continues to get ever more evil and dangerous. The saddest commentary of all, however, would seem to be that out of those things she mentioned, the hardest of all to achieve in the United States would be gun control.

Oh, America, what are you doing? Why can’t you stand up to the gun lobby and make life sacred? How many more must die?
