The family of murdered Trillick councillor Patsy Kelly submitted a petition to Prime Minister Theresa May this week to seek help in finding out who killed him.
Mr. Kelly, an independent member of Omagh District Council, was murdered and dumped in Lough Eyes near Tempo with weights tied to his body after being abducted. He had gone missing after locking up a bar in Trillick on July 24, 1974.
His family believe that members of the Ulster Defence Regiment were involved in the murder and have serious concerns about the original investigation by the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
On Tuesday, November 14, Sinn Féin MPs Barry McElduff and Francie Molloy accompanied by Mr Kelly’s widow Teresa in Westminster for a series of engagements, including a meeting with Secretary of State, Mr. James Brokenshire.
The family also submitted a petition to Prime Minister Theresa May at 10 Downing St calling for truth and justice around the murder of Councillor Kelly.
Barry McElduff MP said: “Today was an important step in the Kelly family’s 43-year long campaign for truth and justice.
“While our engagement with James Brokenshire was important, the continued refusal of the British Ministry of Defence to even respond to the Kelly family’s repeated request for information or to agree a meeting signals a staggering level of arrogance and disrespect towards the Kelly family.
“The British government must face up to its role and responsibility for the actions of British state forces and their loyalist proxies.”
