OVER 1,000 people have taken part in a special walk in memory of Thomas Magee, the four year old boy from Maguiresbridge who died in an accident last April.
On New Year’s Eve the sound of bag pipes filled the air around the Gortin Glens as the ‘Trek for Thomas’ organised by the little boy’s sister Emily got underway, raising almost £12,000 for charity.
Thomas’ mother Jaqueline said Emily is determined to keep her little brother’s memory alive along with the school girl’s aunt Sandra Edgar and described the trek as a perfect tribute to the “fun loving, outdoor little farmer.”
There were three walks to suit all ages and abilities followed by soup and hot dogs.
Emily has already raised £8,100 for Make A Wish Foundation, which arranges experiences for children with life threatening medical conditions, through a coffee morning held at her Maguiresbridge Primary School.
At the time she told the event which was attended by over 400 people: “Thomas’ wish came true every day when he got out to the farm. Let’s make another sick little boy or girl’s wish come true.”
