Allams have announced that Ulster’s Premier Christmas Show and Sale of Farm Quality Assured Beef Cattle and spectacular calves will be held on Tuesday, November 25 2014 at The Kings Hall Complex, Balmoral, Belfast. Twenty beef classes, nine beef championships, supreme and reserve champions and the Ulster housewife’s Championship will be competed for. Classes have been provided for British Blue, Aberdeen Angus, British Blonde. Charolais, Limousin, Simmental, Hereford, Shorthorn and European Angus. The total prize fund for the event stands at £10,000.

Judging will be undertaken by Donald MacPherson Castlehills Farm, Berwick on Tweed, Scotland. The MacPherson family have won the Scottish Winter Fair five times, the Smithfield Show three times, and the Highland Show three times. Donald has judged commercial cattle at the Scottish Winter Fair, the Highland Show, the Yorkshire Show, Balmoral Show and the Carlisle Expo. This will be his first time to judge the Allams event. Samuel Carmichael, Procurement Officer for McKee’s of Maghera will judge the Ulster Housewife’s Championship. The Calf Spectacular will have seven classes as well as a Supreme and Reserve champion and a prize fund of £1200. Bullock classes have a weight limit 200kg to 380kg and the heifer classes 200kg to 340kg. This event will also be judged by Donald MacPherson.

The ever popular Young Handlers competition, sponsored by the Reid family Aghalee will have two classes, Boy or Girl 8 to 12 years and Boy or Girl 13 to 16 years, competing for the Stanley Reid Cup and the Gary Pickering Memorial Cup.

Irvinestown-based Millar Meats is to sponsor the European Angus classes at this year’s Allams Christmas Show and Sale.

“We are absolutely delighted to have Millar Meats on board and their sponsorship of our classes is greatly appreciated,” said European Angus Cattle Society secretary, Harry McGaffin.

“Proprietor Stephen Millar has long been an advocate of European Angus cattle and with Allams being recognised as the Province’s premier Christmas Show and Sale there is no better platform for the promotion of excellent farm quality assured beef bred cattle.” Details of the sponsorship were finalised during a recent visit to the farm of European Angus Cattle Society member Hugh Dickson in Moneyreagh when it was also announced that the Society would be sponsoring the Champion and the Reserve Champion in the EA classes.
