A Fermanagh agricultural student has won a prestigious scholarship to help him with his studies.

James Law, from Ederney is the 2015 recipient of the Alltech Scholarship, given to the most promising student from the island of Ireland attending Harper Adams University.

James, who is in first year of the agricultural degree course at the University, specialising in animal science, comes from a beef farming family. He recently received his reward from Alltech Northern Ireland’s Fergal McAdam.

“I would like to congratulate James on the initiative that he has shown since joining the student body at Harper,” Fergal commented.

“The transition from school to university life can be a difficult one for many. However, James has demonstrated that he is more than up to this challenge by impressing all the staff at the University.” He continued: “This is the seventh year of the Alltech Scholarship. It has proved its worth in terms of encouraging students to be the best they can possibly be. The initiative has also allowed Alltech to provide students with an insight into the ways by which they can put their skills and experience to best use post-graduation.” Alltech is one of the world’s leading animal health and nutrition companies.

The business specialises in using yeast based technologies to manufacture a range of leading feed additives, all with a proven track record in delivering improved animal health and performance.

Alltech has twenty one Tier 1 and Tier 2 manufacturing facilities strategically located throughout the world and continued expansion will lead to additional facilities opening over the coming years.

Total traceability is a priority at Alltech and all sites are subject to rigorous quality assurance systems which exceed standards set by local, regional and international regulatory bodies.

Harper Adams University is one of the leading centres of third level agricultural education and related research in the British Isles.

It currently has more than 4,000 students, with about 2,200 of these on undergraduate and postgraduate awards. This number is growing year on year.
