The death has taken place of Gilbert Anderson at the Erne Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Gilbert was educated at Clabby Primary School and Fivemiletown High School.

He trained as a motor mechanic and also worked as a digger driver for his brother Wilfred in the construction business.

He married June Monteith and they set up home in Crieve before building their present home where he also had a garage.

They were blessed with four children but sadly, while they were still very young, June fell ill and died, leaving Gilbert to fulfil the role of both parents.

He became ill four years ago and after having treatment he enjoyed a period of fairly good health until last year when the cancer returned.

He was admitted to the Erne Hospital in November where he was given the highest possible standard of care until his passing in December.

His funeral, which was very largely attended, was conducted by the Rev. Daphne Twinem and assisted by the Rev. Maurice Armstrong.

He was predeceased by his eldest daughter Barbara in November. He is immediately survived by his sons Gary and William and his daughter Julie-Ann. Interment took place in St. Margaret's Churchyard, Clabby.

The funeral arrangements were carried out by S.R. Elliott & Sons, Darling Street, Enniskillen.
